ABOUT US

WELCOME, DARKLING

The Dark Parlour is a unique experience of shopping, culture, history, and more. A Haus of Obscurities, we have five rooms of retail space exploring a wide variety of antiques and collectibles which are found on the First Floor, plus art, books, and witchy primitives on the second floor. Additionally, owner Lauren Rae utilizes parts of the Haus as an artist studio, working on various illustrations, photography, and fine art. She also crafts a variety of items that are available for purchase (hand-drawn greeting cards, catnip toys, knit items, original artworks, jewelry, and more).

The Dark Parlour curates exhibits and showcases in the Gallery, located on the 2nd floor, which rounds out the Haus with six rooms to experience. This versatile space also lends itself to workshops, lectures, paint nights, and so much more. We post our events here, and on Facebook, Eventbrite, and York365, should you ever wonder what we might have to offer for your weekend entertainment.

Darkly Romantic

Ever evolving, and ever changing, The Dark Parlour always keeps things fresh through style changes. We pride ourselves on being a premier destination spot where you can not only shop for, but also learn about interesting historical pieces from gothic primitives to dark art. The Dark Parlour is a one stop experience to fill your senses with dark aesthetics, learn something new, see some art, and purchase something for your curio shelves. Built in 1900, the row home was transformed to reflect a darkly romantic Victorian aesthetic. The first floor primarily focuses on antiques and collectibles ranging from the late Revolutionary and early Victorian Era, to the 1950s. On the second floor, you will find the Red Reading Room (dedicated to literary arts), the Gallery, and the Apothecary (all the gothic primitive witchy wares).

We are located south-centrally in York, Pennsylvania near the major routes of I83, PA Turnpike 76 and Rte 30. We are 30 minutes from Harrisburg, 25 minutes from Lancaster, 45 minutes from Gettysburg and 60 minutes from Baltimore!

Royal Square District

The Dark Parlour is just one of many interesting stops within Royal Square District. The entire area is full of shops, art galleries, studio space, and dining. While you are visiting us, please take some time to check out our neighbors, like Hive Artspace, Casta Cigars, Creatives on King, and Collusion Tapworks (just to name a few). There are a variety of events within the district as a whole, and many of the galleries host classes and more. RSD is a beautiful oasis of murals and culture in Downtown York, PA.

Take a look at what’s inside

The contents of the brick and mortar store are always changing, but the following photos are a glimpse into the aesthetic and feel of The Dark Parlour. We encourage you to visit, see things for yourself, and maybe make a new friend or two along the way.
